Home > Growth of Cruise Ships in Southampton, UK

Take a moment and think about Southampton, UK and what industries dominate the area. Although statistically, the health and wellness industry is at the top, it is not the only entity positively impacting daily life. Leisure travel is on the rise as well thanks to an emphasis on people from all generations looking to live life to the fullest. Among the most profitable areas of leisure travel are cruise ships and in Southampton, UK, cruising is the way to go.

Let us look at the industry as a whole and discover how much it has grown and what the future might hold for cruise ships in Southampton, UK.

Why Choose Cruise Ships?

Before we venture into the realm of the particular growth of the cruise ship industry, we must look at why people choose to invest in this form of leisurely travel in the first place. Going on holiday is something everyone looks forward to. Traditionally, the act involves booking a hotel, having the right transportation, and accounting for expenses such as food, petrol, and entertainment.

It can be a lot to do and the one making all the plans rarely gets the opportunity to relax even while on holiday, but the cruise industry takes the guesswork out of any trip.

Essentially, when you book a cruise, your main requirement is merely making it to the ship. Offshore excursions, entertainment, and food can be booked in advance, so there is little to worry about. With everything covered under virtually one price, it simply makes more sense to book a cruise line for your next holiday. Economically, a cruise is among the smartest holiday investments a family of any size can make.

The Impact of COVID-19

When COVID-19 came into the picture, in 2020, industries of all types had to reestablish their business model and adapt to the necessities of the day. Unfortunately, due to the nature of cruise ships, they worked as a breeding ground for spreading the virus and therefore, the ships were forced to dock and remain docked for quite a long time. Those dark days are something the cruise industry will not soon forget, but it can be used as a learning tool for how to combat the spread of all illnesses, not just COVID-19.

Have We Recovered?

Although the effects of COVID-19 within the Southampton Cruise Industry will always be felt in some way, the numbers indicate the industry has not only matched pre-COVID-19 numbers but surpassed them. Today’s numbers show an impressive 500 shops serving over 2 million passengers this year.

What Does That Mean for Southampton, UK?

Economic growth is always encouraged and within Southampton, UK, we can thankfully say, the cruise industry is on the rise. Currently, each cruise nets an estimated £2.7 million in revenue for Southampton. The industry has also awarded over 14,000 jobs, so it is certainly putting a lot of people to work.

Not only is the cruise ship industry providing both economic revenue and jobs for residents, but it also has a positive impact on travel to Southampton as a whole.

For those boarding the ships, the need for hotel suites while they are waiting and restaurants to keep them fed are essential. This individual often arrive a day or two ahead of the cruise or stay in Southampton for a few days post-cruise, so it drives the travel industry as a whole providing even more revenue for the area.

The Need for Transportation

Not everyone lives within driving distance of Southampton and requires alternate forms of transportation. This is something not always talked about in the travel industry, but it is paramount to realize the need for quality transportation to and from ports of call such as Southampton, UK.

As the cruise industry continues to thrive in this growing port, more people will travel to the area and require proper transportation. This could include anything from assisting customers in finding tickets to the closest airport to the port or giving them transportation from the airport to the ship, itself.

Not only are companies providing transport from the airport, but bus terminals, and train stations as well. Transportation is the key that links every part of the cruise industry to its valued customers.

Where is the Cruise Industry in Southampton, UK Headed?

Although the future cannot surely be known by anyone, the trend in cruise ships in Southampton, UK is certainly on the rise. The unfortunate years when COVID-19 was at its height have thankfully become nothing more than a blip in cruise ship history, so now is the time people are travelling more than ever. We may have had to take some time off, but as for Southampton, UK and its growing cruise ship industry, the future is bright and full of hope.

New drop-off charges at London International airports.

Home > New drop-off charges at London International airports.

London Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport now charges to drop off.

Our esteemed travelers and stakeholders of Gatwick and Heathrow airports are in for a surprise, come October 2021. The new charges are introduced not as a way to compensate for losses, but as a means of gaining more travelers and retaining ones we have.

Here’s how the charges help us to achieve that. In recent years, the airport and its stakeholders had planned to issue new charges that would essentially cost travelers more money. These charges would be upwards of £ 10 to £ 15. With that said, the new and applicable charges, set to be enforced beginning October 2021 at Heathrow Airport, are related to the airport’s strategic plan or Surface Access strategy.

These charges are meant to help the airports‘ authority develop and maintain new and more efficient infrastructure. The blueprint for these strategies would have cost travelers a lot more in fees, probably raising more questions regarding motives. When using transportation from London to Southampton cruise ports, consider which terminals to access while dropping off.

Additionally, these rates or fees will make the environment more conducive for large families and business persons alike. With less congestion, families can be out of the parking lot and through security checks in less time. This is a plus even as we continue dealing with the current pandemic. Less congestion means you can enjoy the London airport transfer service, including Southampton cruise transfers, with a semblance of serenity

We are aware that most of our stakeholders would like some insight into what we hope to achieve with these fees of £5 for dropping off. Other than facilitating faster travel, including your favorite London cruise transfers, these charges will help to compensate for airport operational costs. Remember, the fees are stakeholder-oriented. It means at some point, these charges will help offset airport costs as well traveler charges.

As we move from analog and annoying means of facilitating travel to the digital age, we incorporate new-age infrastructure and technology. Paying for these new charges, with effect October 2021, can be done via the following methods.

A free Blue Badge option, an auto-pay function for added convenience, a postpay option to clear payments after midnight of the drop-off date, and of course the Local Commuter Scheme Permit. These forms of payment will reduce congestion along airport roads.

This rise in prices should not hinder your travel plans in the least. If anything, the airport industry as it were will now experience a boost in travelers due to its efficient flow of vehicular and human traffic.

We hope to continue enjoying your patronage for years to come.

London Transportation Industry Slowly Rebuilding After COVID-19 Shutdowns

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the travel industry experienced a boom for years. The talk for the cruise industry was more about increasingly newer and bigger liners, more passengers and creating an enticing atmosphere for tourism. London airport transfers service was full of every passenger’s dream. Then came the year 2020 that brought the transport sector and many other sectors to a devastating halt. Coronavirus travel shutdowns and social distancing calls saw many private transportation and cruising firms close their services.

Transportation from London to Southampton and London cruise transfers experienced the most devastating moments. The optimism that crowned the private transportation services in London and other major cities worldwide petered out. The players in the sector could only wait while praying for better times ahead.

Before cruise companies hoist anchors again and the rest of the travel industry regain full life, hopes are pinned on the vaccines being developed and approved to curb the pandemic. This aside, how are the cruise industry and private transportation services trying to recover from the pandemic’s setbacks?

Pandemic Pressure on London Transportation Gradually Ebbing Down.

Thanks to the determination to see the Coronavirus pandemic phase-out, many sectors have begun registering some incredibly positive feedback. The transport sector that was almost completely shattered by the crisis seems to be on the recovery path. It’s no longer a question of if travellers would want to sail, fly or aboard a bus again, but when they’re going to fully enjoy a comfortable and safe trip.

The once halted passengers’ operations are gradually rejuvenating. Your desired cruise port travel from London to Southampton and cruise terminal Dover Cruise transfers are quickly getting on track. Cruise and other transport companies are consulting with scientists and doctors to set safety protocols. Even the small to medium private transportation enterprises in London such as EC Minibus fleet is forming a great part of this swing back.

The reliance on temperature scanners, disinfection foggers, elimination of group activities, and upgraded ventilation systems seems to work in the same determined spirit of coming up with approved vaccines. Otherwise, who would want to cruise London to Southampton transfers if it feels like going on a hospital ship?

The New Southampton’s Fifth Cruise Terminal

The dedication to phase out the COVID-19 pandemic has seen some great ports around the world start regaining life. Some mega-cruise terminals are springing up. Horizon Cruise Terminal, Southampton’s fifth, is seeing its completion awaiting use by Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises this summer.

The next generation’s cruise terminal at the port has shore power connectivity installed for ships, with roof-mounted solar power. Cruise being such an important part of the city’s heritage, culture and history, the terminal offers high hopes of the transportation industry jumping back to its feet. The new terminal looks forward to welcoming its first cruise passengers this summer, a great indication of the rest of the transport sector slowly swinging back to life.

Whether the travel industry can truly recover in 2021 is fully dependent on the management of the Coronavirus. We’ve seen many countries trying to be ahead in the stiff competition of developing a vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO). A few results are already turning out positive, a reassuring pointer to the possibility of curbing the pandemic so that life turns to normalcy. Many financial backers are on board to see businesses worldwide return to their usual lucrative operations.

Home > What is the Distance from London to Southampton

The estimated journey time from London to Southampton is 2 hours and 10 minutes, but on a good day when there are no traffic the driver can do it in less than 2 hours it is around 80 miles (128 km).

It is a very straightforward journey out of London, the drive towards Heathrow airport using A4 road, one of the most iconic buildings on the route has to be Harrods in Knightsbridge followed by the V&A museum, and the natural history museum on Cromwell road. Follow in to Else Court and you can see the famous Ark building and The Fuller’s Griffin Brewery (London Pride Beer) sometimes you can even smell the beer brewing on the way out to the M4 motorway for 3 junctions passing the junction for (M4  junctions 4) Heathrow airport terminal 2, 3 joined the M25 at Junction 5 on the M4 for 3 junctions on the M25 southbound (clockwise) and then join the M3 at junction 12, M25 and from there it is a straight journey (51 miles) all the way down to the M3 junction 14, M27 and then here you have a few options you can either go round the M27 westbound or cut through the Centre of Southampton.

By using M27 motorway you will come to Southampton from the Westside Down by the docs and follow it straight to the terminal while passing the cargo containers on the way.

If you take the A33 instead, you will come straight through the center of Southampton. This is definitely the most scenic route into Southampton where you get to see more of the city until you reach your cruise terminal.

Whichever option you take to come into Southampton it is approximately 15 to 20-minute drive from when you exit the M3 junction 12.
